Almagro

Almagro Main Square

On one side is the access door to the best baroque theater in Europe, the Corral de Comedias, which consists of three sides and 54 wooden pilasters that surround the small stage.

In the monumental Almagro there are beautiful civil buildings (houses of the Mayorazgo de los Molina, de los Rosales, del Prior, del Capellan de las Bernardas, palaces of the Marquises of Torremejía,...), beautiful churches and secluded convents, among those that stand out are the churches of San Agustín (17th century), San Bartolomé (17th century), Madre de Dios, from the late Gothic, and the convents of Santa Catalina (17th century, headquarters of the Parador de Turismo) or the Asunción of Calatrava (16th century).

Almagro (Ciudad Real) is located in a unique geographical area of Campo de Calatrava, in a narrow corridor wedged between small mountain ranges on the La Mancha plain.

Its name derives from al-Milagro. In 1222, Almagro became the center of the Order of Calatrava, which contributed to the important economic development of the city.

The Plaza Mayor of Almagro, perhaps one of the most beautiful in Spain, would be more than enough reason to travel to this city. Rectangular, it preserves two rows of arcades supported by Tuscan columns under two continuous galleries.
